Have a rant?

March 10th 2011

If there’s a topic I haven’t already gone off about, here’s your place to do your own venting.

I’m opening this up to you. A reader of this blog, another sane person who understands a lot of what’s wrong with this city, requested new topics. So this one’s for you, Mel. Have at it :)

    Hours of Work in Philly

    Reading Terminal Market

Is RTM a bank? They keep bankers hours. I comprehend why the Amish open Wednesday to Saturday and close early. I do. It’s their lifestyle and mantra.

What I don’t understand are the non-Amish who close at 5 PM (many stores) when most people are still at work. That being said, most Philadelphians wear the 60 to 80 hr work week like a badge of honor (another topic called Working in Philly) and cannot get to the chicken vendor or meat counter before it closes.

Now if you are lucky enough to get to RTM by a quarter to six, don’t expect any vendor to still be open. It seems that similar to the restaurants closing a half hour early, so do the vendors and kiosks at RTM. By 5:30 PM, most meats are covered and/or put away. They begin to Windex (yes, Windex) the counters, and should you get there at 5 minutes to 6, heaven forbid should they go ALL THE WAY TO THE BACK in order for you to increase their revenues. Imagine that, refusing sales? Really?

I thanked a meat vendor next to a produce market for being open after 5 PM. He mentioned that other vendors approached him so that they would all close at 5 PM so that there would be some uniformity. Uniformity? Sounds like an attempt at oligarchic collusion to me.

If the owners were at all businesses in RTM, they would not be closing early (or perhaps after time, they’d be muscled into doing it too, who knows). One thing is certain here in Philadelphia, if you don’t drink the Kool-Aid in the city of BROTHERLY love, you don’t drink at all because your brothers will let you die of thirst. And all are unapologetic for it. No remorse, no manners, no flexibility.

No initiative from the front counter employees. Makes you wonder how they will influence the hard working Mexicans who are in the back. They brought a solid work ethic to Philly, which I am afraid will be contaminated over the next generation or two.

    Sad, and pathetic.

  2. Jimmy Carl Black says:

I found this site because my wife recently mentioned wanting to take the family to Philadelphia for vacation. After laughing myself dizzy, I realized she was serious and then I threw up in my mouth a little. I went online to find evidence of other people feeling as I do about Filthy and came across this site.

My background is that I was born in NYC, but my parents divorced when I was 11 and my father moved to Filthadelphia. Due to some fucked-up court decisions, I was forced to live with him during the school week until I finally rebelled and went to boarding school when I was 14.

My only criticism of your site is that I actually think it’s a little too kind to Filthadelphia. Between having a travel-based job for 12 years and loving to travel for fun, I’ve been to 32 states and 17 countries. I state without any trace of hyperbole or exaggeration that Philadelphia is the nastiest, crudest, most classless city I’ve ever set foot in. In comparison, oft-maligned cities like Cleveland and Oakland seem like paradises of culture and virtue.

  3. nelson segarra says:

Well my rant today will be about how ppl particularly black males feel it necessary to argue over the cell phone in a very loud tone in public, what is it do they feel like it makes them seem kool? or superior in some way by being aggressive over the phone? can someone shed some light on this and help me understand the arrogance behind this. I mean i guess i get it i just need someone else to confirm what i already know.

  4. Outsider says:

I think it’s a case of people who just don’t give a damn about anyone else. Philly has more than it’s fair share of that type of person but arrogant assholes are everywhere.

  5. Marie says:

@Mel…Truth be told, I think they close that early because they are aware of the criminal element in their area. The later it gets, the more danger they put themselves in just by being there. Frankford Avenue under the “El” is lined with various businesses…but come 5PM, the gates come down (literally!) and the shop owners go home. Drive down there at 6PM and it looks like it’s ready to be bombed. I agree…it’s unreal.

  6. Krista says:

I was walking south on 8th Street at about Bainbridge three weeks ago. A man who looked to be in his late 50s was walking his dog on the other side of the street, going north. He was on his cell phone. He let his bigass dog take a bigass dump right in the middle of the sidewalk. He glanced at the shit pile and walked on, didn’t miss a beat in his jabbering. I wanted to yell across the street, but I was afraid I would take out all of my frustrations with this city on this nasty schmuck bastard, so I refrained. Ignorance and selfishness runs rampant in Philly (from all races and social classes)… or you just see the dog shit. Interesting metaphor.

  7. Laurie says:

Hey, NYC is without a doubt WORSE…at least you guys have affordable rents. A one br apt in queens where I live is almost 1500- and the landlord doesnt take care of the property or of the tenants.

  8. Outsider says:

Affordable rent is indeed one thing Philly has going for it. Having my very own washer/dryer and not needing to drag laundry three blocks to the laundromat is awesome. That and outdoor space…things middle income people only dream about in Manhattan.

  9. Mel says:

    TAXI TORMENT

Why don’t the Philly cab drivers turn off the light when there is a passenger?

Why are cabbies always on their mobiles when by law they are not supposed to?

Why can you never see the identification card for the driver in the cab?

And why is the credit card machine in the cab always “broken” and they ask you to pay cash?

    Why?

  10. Effavess says:

I believe SEPTA bus drivers have a pact to try to take out cyclists whenever they can.
Been bicycle commuting for 7 years, from western suburbs to University City, year-round….I have learned to be very afraid of the SEPTA buses – they speed off from one stop, then slam on brakes to make their next stop, swerving across the bike lane cutting me off, ALL THE TIME, and I’m certain they see me – I have flashing lights, bright clothing etc.
AND why is there a freakin stop at EVERY CORNER? What is it, people in West. Philly can’t walk more than block to a bus stop?! Lame, lame lame.
Cycling unfriendliness is only one of many reasons to hate this nasty place.
    Can’t wait to leave.

  11. Suzy Q says:

    GARBAGE BURNING

One of my neighbors is always burning garbage in a can in his backyard. It’s not normal household garbage either. It’s usually construction materials like wood and chunks of sheet rock. I did some googling and that’s illegal in Philadelphia. I don’t dare talk to him about it or call the fire department or police though for fear of retaliation because he’s buddies with cops. That’s probably why none of my other neighbors call either. This guy stinks up the area for blocks when the weather is nice. There’s nothing we can do about it.

He’s another typical Philadelphia person who doesn’t care about a damn thing but himself. What an asshole.

  12. Mel says:

Hey Outsider, you have to post this under Current Events. This is sooooo Philly.

Philadelphia bans criminal history questions before job interview
April 18, 2011 by Alan Tu

    http://www.newsworks.org/index.php/local/item/17583-mayor-signs-donna-reed-millers-qban-the-boxq-bill-into-law

It will soon be illegal for employers to ask job applicants about their criminal background before the first interview. Today Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter held a ceremony highlighting the legislation. The new law takes effect beginning on July 13.

The bill was introduced by Eighth District Councilwoman Donna Reed Miller.
The goal is give ex-felons a better shot at getting a job because under the new law employers won’t be able to ask about an applicant’s criminal history until after the first interview.

“What happens is, you know, most of the time when that question is answered, the box is checked, that application is put to the side or actually put in the trash,” Miller said at a recent appearance before the Philadelphia African-American Chamber of Commerce.

The councilwoman says there are more than 300,000 people in Philadelphia who have been convicted of a crime, and she believes that is a conservative estimate.
“It’s giving them a chance to be interviewed, to be tested, to put down their knowledge, skills and abilities, to have a real assessment before they are just disregarded,” Miller said.

Following an initial interview with the prospective employee, the employer may perform a background check. If an employer does not conduct an interview, no inquiry can be made into the applicant’s criminal history.

Philadelphia is the first city in the Commonwealth to enact this legislation for both public and private employers.

  13. Theresa says:

I hate it here because everyone is so detached from nature. Nature brings people back to reality, and this place is far from it. It’s so dirty here, I have to shower every time I get home and wash my clothes right away. Everyone is so obsessed with high end material things, especially cars and clothes. I have never seen so many luxury cars in my life driven by so many ugly people. The city and surrounding areas are the most polluted in the country- it’s hard to breathe here and the water tastes like chemicals so bad I can barely use it to rinse my mouth when I brush my teeth. People only care about themselves. There is no brotherly, sisterly, or any other kind of love to be found here. Life here is all about being cold and closed off from real human emotions. Smiling and opening a door can get you snubbed and a dirty/crazy look. Being nice in general is just shunned by people here. I’m nice anyway. I don’t want to get cold and un-human. This is by far and away the worst place I have ever lived in my life. I can’t find one good thing- and OH my god have I tried.

  14. Outsider says:

@Mel Geez now I really feel safe here. Lovely.

  15. Suzy Q says:

A couple of streets away from my house there’s a tree down blocking half the road. It’s been there for four days already! Where is the city department that takes care of things like that? How long will the tree sit there, rotting, blocking the road? This city sucks in too many ways to count.

  16. How did I get here? says:

So glad to find this site. This city, which is not really a city but a small village, SUCKS.

You can expect that tree to stay there a long while.

The people are so unfriendly and cliquey , introverted, repressed and depressed. Does any one smile in this town or have a real sense of humor?

RTM, yeah way to go especially in a recession. It closes so early. Doesn’t this town get it that if people can’t get to their establishments they lose money or put another way they don’t make money, especially when the sidewalks are a solid sheet of ice and landlords and shop keepers a like don’t remove the snow as in shoveling it to the side in a timely manner.

This place is about 50 years behind other cities. Racist, too. And why is everything closed in the heart of Center City so early. No one is ever on the streets. I never saw such a desolate city. Restaurants close so early, even on the week nights.

Do Philadelphians like sitting in their homes as opposed to being out and about?

And I want to know do they really call Septa a transportation system……what a joke.

  17. stuck in philly says:

I was driving to work today and as I approached a stop light, two college-age girls (probably Penn students due to the neighborhood) decided to walk right in front of my car, despite the fact that I had the green light and they had the red light. I stopped, rather abruptly to avoid running them over, and let them pass. Ok, so they didn’t notice the light. I was on a small street turning on to a larger one, perhaps they’re not used to cars coming from the little street. But what makes this a philly moment was that they turned around, cursed at me and gave me the finger! Why? Because I didn’t run their privileged asses over?

I hate this city and really, really hope to move back to NYC soon. At least people there are civilized.

  18. Mel says:

Suzy Q, call 311, it connects you to city hall for this sort of thing. And hope for the best.

  19. Mel says:

Outsider, can you start a topic called Clothing and/or Lack of Fashion

  20. H.P. says:

I too am a transplant from out of town trying to move as far away from here as possible! I also created a blog for daily/weekly rants but from a suburb’s point of view (Chester County) which really is no different than what folks experience in the downtown area of Philly. So please feel free to share your comments there as well! http://whatisinthepawater.blogspot.com/

  21. Outsider says:

@H.P. no problem linking to your site. Everyone check it out!

I hope venting about your experiences is as cathartic for you as it is for me.

  22. H.P. says:

Writing my new blog certainly helps me channel my stress and anger when I deal with these morons on a daily basis. I will try and post every couple of days to keep the content interesting and fresh. I can’t wait to see what people will post as responses! Oh btw, I agree about the Philly Fashion because it’s really bad in Chester County too. For women, as long as you are pear-shaped, have a butch hair cut and are wearing your favorite team jersey to cover your large ass you’re good to go! Oh and of course the perfect pedi and mani is always visible because that alone will divert attention from the fugliness. The men here are not much better considering you often cannot tell the difference between the males or females (often with the same hair cut). I am convinced there was a lot of in-breeding out this way for decades that have contributed to the overall mentality level and the knuckle-dragging. I’ve visited and lived many places in the U.S. and Eastern, PA by far is the ugliest and fattest area I’ve ever seen! Although I hear the rest of PA isn’t much better from other transplants I’ve spoken to.

  23. H.P. says:

Ha I meant to say ‘morons’ – now that’s funny! It’s good to laugh at yourself which I often do. I find most around here are way too serious about image which is so ironic considering what they look like. Especially being so seriously driven in sports. Start your kids as soon as they can barely walk in every sport imaginable while their parents live vicariously through them. Most around here probably never even played a sport in their lives so they have to bully their kids into being the best. The kids grow up to be arrogant assholes like their parents. I see it when I’m at the playground and watch 4-6 year olds behave like bullies. I realize this is a common problem across America but here it’s very prevalent.

  24. ZhatesPhilly says:

    Hi,

I am a Philly native and I hate everything about Philadelphia. I can’t wait until I move away…very, very far away. I am a junior in college and being away from Philly and it’s people made me realize that my hatred for Philly is a lot stronger than I thought it was. The people here are stupid. No education whatsoever. Not only are the people ignorant, but too many of them also have children. So there are a bunch of dummies walking around with babies. It’s sad. It seems like everyone is pretending to be something or someone they’re not and this is evident in the way they dress and behave. Everybody is so “tough” in Philly, but really, they’re all just a bluff. And this Philly slang? What the hell is a “jawn”?! Please!!! People don’t realize how stupid they sound when they use this kind of language…it makes it difficult to hold a serious conversation with anybody. I am completely turned off by the guys in Philly, too…OMG. This goes back to the whole education thing. Nobody wants to date a dummy (at least I don’t). Philly guys, it is not okay to approach a girl or try to get their attention by saying “yo” or “ay.” GROW UP. sigh. I could go on and on forever about the things I hate about Philly…but I’ll because that’ll make for one really long rant.

I am always ashamed to bring my friends from college here on breaks or if I come to visit because it is FILTHY and there’s absolutely nothing to do and nothing to see around here. I’m ashamed to call this place my home. I hate Philly.

  25. Outsider says:

@Z, at the top of every page of this blog I state that in my experience, not everyone in Philly is angry/nasty/rude/insane. You totally prove my point. Some of you who are from here realize how awful it is. And some native Philadelphians are really cool people. Unfortunately, in my experience, the majority are not. It’s a sad, sad town.

  26. Another Mel says:

Just came back from Philly. Not happy. I actually googled this to see if I was just crazy b/c I wanted to give the city the benefit of the doubt. But two days in Philly and I saw everything you guys said. Aside from a couple small blocks that are kept nice due to preservation/historical rules, the town is disgusting.
Nasty looks from those all around, LOVE park is filled with homeless, everything closed at 5 or 6 and opened at 10 or 11. Penn’s landing was all bark. Nothing goes on there. Cab driver was insane and had his hand on the horn more than off. I came to Philthy after NYC and the honking was worse in Philthy. Most unwelcoming city I’ve ever been in. Never will recommend. Will never go back. How can a city care so little about itself?

  27. CJ says:

I was at the Phillies game tonight and I was having a friendly conversation with the usher about Citizens Bank Park, he was very nice and courteous and at the end of the conversation I told him thank you and have a nice evening, what make this a Philly moment, is that there was a lady wearing Phillies Gear that was going down the steps, who I very politely said excuse me to, said to me very hastily ” I am just trying to go down the steps, now if I was blocking her way she very easily could have said excuse me and she has enough room she could have went around me and the usher. I am from South Jersey, went to high school in Philly, I went through self-esteem issues for years, because the people are so rude and nasty here and people would rather see you fail than to succeed. My self esteem was boosted by self help, a lot of my friends that I grew up with moved away, I went to visit some of my friends that lived in other cities and plus I have family that live in Jacksonville, New Orleans, and Atlanta. The more I visit my friends and family and I am treated well by the people in other cities, the more I realize that PHILLY is a JOKE…. I could go all night on my rant………but rest assure this I would take DC or NY any day over PHILLY

  28. Chris says:

What I hate most about the city and its surrounding suburbs? The fact that so many people say they are artsy and into great music and filmmaking and I’ve yet to meet ANY of these fucking people.

I post ads on craigslist constantly looking for people into indie filmmaking/YouTube videos, short films, you name it…. no one responds.

For an area which has gorgeous places to shoot stuff in (especially the ‘burbs).. why isn’t anyone doing anything? They’re just sitting around with their cheesesteaks, bitching about the pro sports teams.

    Really? Yes, really.

I have an awesome HD DSLR filmmaking rig… multi-camera setup. I moved from Florida to the Philly area 7 years ago, to try to make shit happen, musically and through indie film and stuff. I’ve yet to meet ANYONE into ANYTHING here.

    What the fuck. Seriously.

Oh, and I have another rant… it will go in the next comment…

  29. Chris says:

And you single girls… what the hell is wrong with you?

How many ads do I have to place on craigslist and how many ads do I need to respond to to GET A REAL RESPONSE from someone?

I am NOT an ugly guy. I am highly intelligent, talented, friendly, romantic… I have great taste in music and movies and yet, in the 7 years I’ve lived here, I’ve never been so fucking lonely in my life. I thought for sure I’d gt a girlfriend instantly, with all the “culture” we have here. Yeah right.

I hate the city because it’s unsafe, dirty, and miserable… I would think there would be some nice people in the ‘burbs, cute single girls just out of college… nope…

Am I in the wrong area, completely? I’m in East Norriton / Collegeville / Phoenixville area by the way….. I’m 35… I don’t get it.

Someone kiss me before I freakin’ fall apart from loneliness.

    Thanks…

  30. Greg says:

This is probably the funniest goddamn thing ever, but you know that “one thing” you guys are giving Philly a break about, saying it’s the one positive thing about the area? Well, it’s actually not hahahaha!

You’re saying that Philly’s rent costs are cheap. Yeah… to what, NYC? Let me put it to you this way, Philly is 2nd only to NYC in outrageous rent prices. My 2-bedroom DIVE in Philly cost me $1130/mo! I had to get a damn roommate just to “sort of” survive. Meanwhile in my new city, I have a beautiful 2-bedroom with a yard, to myself, for $600/mo!!!!!!!

All I can say is get out of the tri-state area altogether, chumps! And stay away from Cali while you’re at it, they are easily #3 on that list.

  31. noonan says:

shut the fuck up and get the fuck out!!!!! you dont like the tristate? then fukin leave bitch! you dont like cali either then go live with sara fukin palin in texas or sum shit. i hope you geta real philly experience and get mugged on your way to your car thats bin stolen only to get beat up by philly pd when you report it! chumps huh? well your punk bitch,,,,,

  32. Outsider says:

@noonan where you bin all my life ive bin waitin for sum one like u to set me strate

  33. Suzy Q says:

    Noonan-
“i hope you geta real philly experience and get mugged on your way to your car thats bin stolen only to get beat up by philly pd when you report it”

Getting mugged, car being stolen, beaten up by the philly pd for reporting a stolen car is a real philly experience? Really?

  34. Manny G says:

Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington ranked No.1 on Forbes’ 2011 Most Toxic Cities list, which was compiled based on factors such as air and water quality and data collected from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

    Enjoy the Schuylkill Punch everyone!

  35. KAM619 says:

I am from Philly, and I hate this city. I was born and raised here. The people here (not all, but a majority) are assholes, you can’t walk anywhere without worrying if your gonna be mugged or gunned down. Now the burbs of philly are ok..Not all but its better than that piece of shit city ..Just sayin :) -

  36. Ian says:

    Philadelphia Parking Authority.

A monument to bureaucratic idiocy. They issue zone tickets for cars that have permits for their zones. I just ended an 8 month battle to get 2 erroneous tickets cleared. I had to go into PPA court to do it. The PPA computer systems make mistakes all the time and I’m still convinced the ticket agents are under quota pressure — why else would they issue a Zone 2 parking ticket to a car with a Zone 2 sticker???

Originally from California. Rittenhouse is cool, but the bureaucracy in this town needs an ax taken to it.

  37. Mark says:

I was in Philadelphia on a business trip (trade show) a month ago. At the beginning of the show we were told that mobs of people were roaming the downtown area beating people up and that we should be “careful” where we go. In turn, just about everyone from the event stayed at the hotel and never left. So I saw a refinery and a sewage plant on my way to and from the airport. Something tells me that my experience probably would not have gotten better than that. You may want to consider changing the politicians in Philadelphia if you want to continue to attract business there.

  38. Manny G says:

    To Ian (about the PPA)

Ian, the scumbag ticket agents hand out “violations” on purpose because the majority of the people in the 19106 and 19107 zip code would prefer to pay the infraction instead of losing one day of work. I would like to let you know that on every occasion but one, when I showed up at Filbert Street, they threw out the tickets. Tell your boss that you will not give in to terrorist PPA demands, and that you are happy she or he understands.

As for future tickets, be careful anyway. Let your friends know that when they print the ticket for the windshield, an electronic message is sent to HQ and then it is relayed to the employee in the neighborhood so that he or she can find the infraction and ticket you. Sometimes even before the time is up.

  39. Suzy Q says:

    Neighbors and newspapers

Every week we get free neighborhood newspapers and circulars thrown on our doorsteps. I don’t have a problem with this. What I do have a problem with is my next door neighbors (who have never said hello to me and studiously ignore me) kicking their papers in front of my house. They can’t do what most other people do, which is pick up the trash that ends up on their steps and throw it away. That’s too much trouble! Instead they step over it for days and eventually put it in front of my house to pick up. What’s that about?

These are the same neighbors who let their kids run rampant all over my property. The kids are like something out of Children of the Corn with their blank stares. It’s ultra creepy. Doesn’t anyone teach their children how rude it is to stare at people?

  40. Vijay says:

This is seriously a f**king cu*t of a city. Brotherly love, my a$$!! I have never never never seen an American town full of SO MUCH HATE AND HOSTILITY as I have seen in Philadelphia. let me introduce myself – I am from India and I have lived (and loved living) in your country for the past 14 years. I have lived in Minneapolis, Peoria (Illinois), Washington DC – Northern Virginia, and now Philadelphia. Philadelphia is the crappiest and shittiest town of them all!!!
Philadelphia makes me HATE AMERICA AND AMERICANS!! But I do know that majority of Americans are good and guess what?? They are NOT in Philly!! They are all somewhere else in those other towns I mentioned – Hell, Philly makes WDC – VA – MD area look so goood although that area (WDC/VA/MD) is full of ruthless and crappy people as well!!! But at least that area was a beautiful area to live in. I curse my luck for moving here to Philly two years ago because of a great job out here and trust me this great and quite lucrative job I have here is the ONLY THING that keeps me here!! Otherwise I would get the hell out of this dirty, filthy, stinking town the first chance I get but I doubt I would get a higher paying job anywhere else.
Ever since I moved here – I have been harassed by my landlord, harassed and stalked by my neighbors (students and witchy old women straight from a horror movie), harassed for over a year by my co-workers at work (over nothing at all!!! – I dont even work with those people, they just work in the same office campus), abused filthily by people at various bars/restaurants (for quietly eating my food/drink), harassed by people at the gym (again for quietly trying to get some exercise), called “Spic”, “Motherfucker”, and “Little Jackass” by random people at gas stations, car dealers, DMVs, museums, and movie theaters. Small example – when I beeped my mini-van to lock it with my remote in my office campus parking lot A WOMAN who must have worked at our company (which is a major defense company) for over 20 years yelled at me, “FUCK YOU!!! WONDER WHERE THESE PEOPLE COME FROM???!!!!”. I was shocked out of my wits. AND this was a highly educated PHILLY WOMAN we are speaking about!!!
Ohhhh the Philly area movie theater crowd – did I forget to say they are one of the most filthiest, rowdiest, and stinkiest people on this universe and let me tell you this – the shitty Philly crowd includes both WHITES AND BLACKS. It appears that the blacks and whites in this town are united in their stalking and harassing behavior – bravo!! bravo!! NOW, THATS unity!!! . And the bar incident – I was quietly enjoying my food and drink at the bar when some rednecks started indirectly harassing me by calling me, “a$$hole motherf**ker, son of a wh**e!!” among other things….And the people at my apartment complex – OMG, I think MOST OF THEM live on welfare!!! They have nothing else to do but scream profanity – they are there when I leave for office and they are there when I come back and they dont even look old enough to be retired or anything!!!And of course at night – they keep pounding all night long just to harass neighbors and keep them awake. I have just about had enough of this town. And someone was right “In Philly they don’t try to talk to you and get to know you – they try to figure you out, bully you, and press your buttons!!!” VERY CORRECT!!

  41. Vijay says:

Oh and did I forget to say my car has been vandalized twice? And also broken into and my awesome CD collection stolen? It is after moving to Philly that I was told by friends and colleagues that I couldnt leave stuff lying visible in my car and cannot even leave stuff in my gym locker because there have been thefts!! The first time my car was vandalized by none other than movie theater employees. I KNOW THIS because I went to see a late night movie at Marple Township AMC movie theater. I pulled into a spot right in front of some AMC employees who were smoking. As soon as I pulled in my expensive-looking mini-van, I could sense, from the angry looks this mob of employees gave me, that they were upset a foreigner could afford such a car. I thought for a moment, is it safe to park here? But I ignored my own alarm bells that kept ringing in my mind and decided to park there. When I came back – there were cigarette butts, colored candy pills, and chewing gum all over my windshield. I guess they wanted me to follow a healthy diet? I was shocked at what they did and surprised at how correctly I had guessed the FILTH-A-DAY-FILTH-A-DELPHIANS would vandalize my car! Soon after, as if that was not enough, my car was broken into. And then it was vandalized again at my apartment complex because obviously my filtha neighbors are jealous. And do you know what the cheapo filthas did this time? They taped my front and rear windshield wipers!!! So that the wipers wouldnt work when I needed them (like when I am in a thunderstorm for example) but fortunately I immediately noticed that in the morning and removed the tapes. FILTHA FILTHA FILTHA!!!! You remain filthadelphians forever…..You may harass me, abuse me, trash my car, beat me up, and eventually kill me but you will never ever make as much money as I do, FILTHAS!!!! And yes, go put a lighter under your a$$ and light up your farts because I am from India. May your jealousy explode and kill you someday, filthas.

When I stumbled upon this website I couldn’t help but have a little tear in my eyes finally realizing that I have other people here who I can relate to. This city has been hell on earth to navigate through, and I can honestly say I made every attempt to truly scrutinize and be positive through the whole experience. Just like many of you on here…this city has gotten the best of me. It’s like you come here with a positive attitude and the locals suck the life out of you. I grew up in Detroit, moved to Chicago, and eventually moved to Cali and when the economy downturn arrived I went back to school here and got stuck. Now being here four years I have already notified the landlord I will NOT be staying another year, because I’m afraid I’m going to jail if I deal with one more smart ass.

The people of Philadelphia have no class, competence, are insecure, anti-social, cliquish, and all have a chip on the shoulder. Want a fun game? Go introduce yourself to someone and attempt to shake their hand with making eye contact…you will get an instant freak out. I’ve worked Mainline to Chester – North East to Conshy. It doesn’t matter where you go…the people here got the impression that this was the best city on the planet and they ran with it.

I would have to say my personal favorite is that you can’t even have conversations in work or social related events, and if you do they have an entourage with them thus making it even more difficult. Daily I speak to locals that are in the late 30′s and have never been to NYC or have actually assumed it’s a 4 hour drive. If you act polite to people they shit on you, if you treat them like shit you get a new found respect. This is the most backwards place on the planet, so if you have any intelligence run like hell if you are considering moving here!

Want to know why they have a job market in Philly and why so many out of staters come here? It’s because the locals are unmotivated and uneducated yet will be the first to say, “We don’t have jobs here” regardless of the fact Jersey, Philly, Delaware, and Maryland is all within 1 hour of each other. After four years here I have friends in D.C., NYC, Jersey, but none in Philly. Once upon a time a friend of mine (from Jersey) said, “Ya see…Philly is like one giant shitty high school that you can’t graduate from”. I couldn’t of explained it better myself!

Aside from having a couple good clubs, moderate weather, and cheesesteaks this place blows. Not to mention you can’t walk anywhere without practically getting mugged in broad daylight. West, South, Southwest, and North Philly is like a fuckin’ war zone…just put a buffet in those areas as far as I’m concerned and nuke the whole lot. As for the Northeast extension of the city if you are total and complete white trash you will fit in amazing. South street is overrun by idiots because the police force would have to motivate in order to clean it up. Areas like Northern Liberties are borderline crap neighborhood, and borderline decent. It’s like you have a 3 block radius to navigate and don’t even be caught downtown after dark by yourself even in well lit areas.

The sports fans…well let’s just say I lost total interest after living here. Sports are no longer fun and the meatheads here are complete and total barbarians, and it shows when the game is on. Word of advise people! If you want a decent city go to NYC, San Francisco, L.A., Chicago, or any other major metropolitan area that doesn’t involve this shit hole. You will do much better and you will at least keep your faith in people.

Furthermore! They can’t drive! If 2 inches of snow hits the ground the place shuts down and they have multiple car pile ups. Total idiots!!

Moving to NYC in June! Couldn’t be happier and already have a place lined up! Furthermore if you don’t like the comments I’m putting, as they would say in Philly prior to even asking for an opinion, “Go fuck yourself”.
